2017 Summer Movies

It’s almost here!  The Movie Blockbuster season!  Woo hoo!

The summer movie season, the way I hear it from other bloggers and podcasters, can trace its blockbuster-y-ness to the summer of 1975, and a new director brought out this beach movie that changed summer movies, FOREVER.

Since the release of “Jaws” back in ’75 movie studios have been going for bigger, and bigger movies (notice I didn’t say better); we are getting to a point where movies are being made for $1 billion a pop for a summer release movie.  The next 2 Avenger movies from Marvel Studios is going to cost $1 billion for each of them…$2 billion for a set of movies that are filming back-to-back.  That’s crazy!

In anticipation of the summer blockbusters here is what I am going to do.  I want to list here my anticipated summer movie list, May through August; then I will guess which 5 movies will have the best summer opening (opening equals opening weekend box office, usually those are released on Monday, if there is a tie the tiebreaker will be the difference between opening and budget).
