Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

The beginning of summer blockbusters is upon us, and the first one up is the sequel of the 2014 run away of a C list group of comic book characters, “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

2014’s opening weekend = $94,320,883
2017’s opening weekend = $145,049,000 (almost covering budget)

Now there are 5 team members that are part of the current lineup of the Guardians: Peter Quill (Star Lord), Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. I would almost say that the current lineup would also have a 6th member in the music. Starting with five minute long opening sequence of Groot dancing to “Mr. Blue Sky” by the Beatles, and then Kurt Russell’s character, Ego, going on a 3 minute explanation of the song “Brandy” by Looking Glass to Peter (Star Lord):

The sailors say “Brandy, you’re a fine girl” (you’re a fine girl)
“What a good wife you would be” (such a fine girl)
“Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea”

“Brandy, you’re a fine girl” (you’re a fine girl)

“What a good wife you would be” (such a fine girl)
“But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea”

The characters, story(ies), action, and music are what drive this movie, it seems like it has all the pieces there to make a good summer time blockbuster movie, but did it? I’ll leave it up to you to figure out.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand. ~ IMDb
